Kapil Sibal's official website hacked by Anonymous

 

The website of India's Union Minister for Communication, Information and Technology has reportedly been hacked. Notorious hacking group Anonymous claimed responsibility for the attack.

In their latest attack on Friday, the hacking group managed to hijack Kapil Sibal's official website kapilsibalmp.com.

The about page of the website was hacked to read: "Kapil Sibal is the world's biggest retard. Born with a below 60 IQ he thought he could mess with the Internet and let the elite of his party suppress freedom of speech."

While the Constituency page of this website has a picture of Kapil Sibal playing the popular television game 'Kaun Banega Crorepati' (KBC). The question reads as 'Which of these things can be harmful for the country?' And the four options listed are Me, Freedom, Me and Me. Freedom amongst these four options has been highlighted as in the game to connote the right answer.

Anonymous claimed responsibility for the attack via their Twitter account @opindia_revenge saying they hacked the website because "He (Sibal) had used the words 'Victims of freedom of Expression'. He is hiding the fact that #66A is breaking the internet media."

As of writing this report, the site has been taken down and the message reads: "This website is currently under maintenance."Earlier in the month of June, the Anonymous had hacked into Relaince servers and Reliance Communications customers were unable to access Facebook, Twitter and other sites for several hours. Later in the month, MTNL's website became their next victim as the hacking group claimed that they were opposing "censorship" of the Internet.
This group also held protests in several Indian cities in June 2012 against what they claimed as 'growing censorship of Internet by the government' in the country. Held under the banner of worldwide group of web hacking activists 'Anonymous', youngsters wearing 'Guy Fawkes' masks held protests in 16 cities including Bangalore, Pune and Chandigarh, the group claimed on their website.

Anonymous may hack Mars rover 'Curiosity'

NASA's Mars rover 'Curiosity' might be facing a hacking threat from the notorious hacker group, Anonymous, a US security firm has claimed.

Anonymous had reportedly brought down websites including Visa and several US government sites as a protest against WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange's arrest, and 'Curiosity' could be their next target, the Daily Mail reported.

A New York security firm claimed to have spotted a message on an Internet Relay Chat (IRC) asking for help to hack into the signals NASA uses to communicate with the Curiosity rover.

Flashpoint Partners spotted a message by user 'MarsCuriosity' in one of the Anonymous-related IRC channels that it monitors known as the AnonOps IRC channel.



"Anyone in Madrid, Spain or Canbarra who can help isolate the huge control signal used for the Mars Odyssey / Curiosity system please?" the message read.

"The cypher and hopping is a standard mode, just need base frequency and recordings/feed of the huge signal going out. (yes we can spoof it both directions!)," it added.

There is speculation by online discussion groups that the message could be a fake, or even an attempt by law enforcement agencies to trap hackers, the report said.

'Curiosity' had made a spectacular landing in Gale Crater at 05:30 GMT (11:00 IST) on August 6 in a two-year search to find out if the red planet once hosted conditions suitable for life.

Facebook got hacked by Anonymous

Reliance Communications customers were unable to access Facebook, Twitter and other sites for several hours on Saturday after hacker group Anonymous reportedly hacked into the Reliance servers.

According to reports on sites like MediaNama andZDNet, Anonymous hacked into Reliance's servers in such a way that users trying to access Facebook, Twitter, Google, Gmail and Yahoo were greeted by this message:

As the screenshot says, Anonymous' latest step is to protest against the suspension of their old Twitter page, which Anonymous alleges was done at Government of India's behest. The message from Anonymous goes on to criticize the Government for colluding with the ISPs and censoring the internet.

Anonymous has been tweeting against the Department of Telecom and Internet Service Providers like Reliance. The hacktivists are opposed to torrent sites being blocked by companies who get court orders to prevent pirated content from being shared at sites like Vimeo, DailyMotion and others. 

On Friday, Anonymous held a press-conference via an Internet chat in which it criticized Reliance on similar grounds.

Anonymous had last week brought down various websites including that of Congress Party and Reliance Big Cinemas to protest against the blocking of Vimeo and file-sharing sites by ISPs.

Anonymous and Team Poison Join Forces For OpRobinHood to Target Banks and Give to Charities

Two hacking groups, Anonymous and Team Poison, have joined forces to take on the banks, steal money and donate it to charities and protests. Reclaiming the "99 per cent's money back".

Apparently the plan is to swipe money from stolen credit card and bank details and donate it to charities and protest movements:

"Operation Robin Hood is going to return the money to those who have been cheated by our system and most importantly to those hurt by our banks. Operation Robin Hood will take credit cards and donate to the 99 per cent as well as various charities around the globe."

PoisAnon is relying on the fact that the banks will reimburse stolen cash from victim's credit cards, which is probably a safe bet, but would backfire horribly if that doesn't actually happen. Both hacker teams have had success in the past hacking into banks and are confident they can do it again. The thought of internet Robin Hoods running around helping out the poor is a noble proposition, but I can't see this not impacting your average Joe on the street. The money they intend to steal has to come from somewhere and almost everything ends up landing with the customer.
